Calluna vulgaris

Calluna Vulgaris are terrific plants that deserve a spot in the garden, and are a part of the flowering plant family Ericaceae. The evergreen broadleaf shrub can grow up to 2’ – 3’ feet tall. Calluna Vulgaris has narrow, linear, small, evergreen leaves. Spikes of urn-shaped pink or pale purple flowers which are either single or double are borne from mid-summer to autumn.

Planting & Care

Sunlight: The plant may appreciate partial shade during the hottest hours of the day.

Soil: Well-drained soil – prefers acidic soils

Water: Water the plants once or twice a week. Too much water may lead to root rot and inconsistent growth

Fertilizer: If your plant seems to be having trouble, you can add a water-soluble solution in the winter and spring months. This food should be specifically designed for acid-loving plants.

Temperature: TThe best temperature for a seed to germinate is at about 20 degrees Celsius

Pruning: Prune back to the base of flower stalks in the early to mid-spring.
